Overview of a New Cereal Aphid in the Intermountain West

The cereal grass aphid (Metopolophium festucae cerealium) was detected in the Pacific Northwest in the 1990s where it is now one of the most abundant aphids on wheat. By 2011, it reached northern Idaho and in recent years, it has been detected in southern Idaho and Montana. Brad Stokes will provide an overview of the cereal grass aphid and its range, and discuss host plants, the aphid’s life cycle, and identification of symptoms to cereal plants.
